Eating and Weeping's director/filmmaker asked for promotional materials and handbills for distribution at film festivals and screenings. The film is a zany combination of the sensual power of food, humanity and politics that blended the absurd with moments of the profound. The project allowed Darkharp the opportunity to play with historical memes and visual quotes, and to evolve a series of images meant to draw the audience's interest in the project. It was an enjoyable collaboration.
Eating and Weeping, The Song of Stanko is described as the story of a "Bulgarian pastry chef, who accidentally caused the collapse of capitalism - casting off the shackles of liberty, deflating the souffle of capital, and licking clean the spatula of injustice." Stanko is a deeply human and vulnerable character who personifies the unexpected power of memes and the law of unintended consequences. Lovingly ironic, funny and touching, a thoroughly original movie.
